If it doesn't come from your heart, then how you can put real emotions and real feelings into the music? If you learn music theory, how will that teach you to do that?

Theory could help I guess.

Maybe because the teacher wanted you to branch out from your shell? Get the feel of every and all music rather than one category.

Oh...

Everything costs money nowadays. It's worth it though.

He's getting on in his days. Late 40's, most likely early 50's.

Excellent stuff :D How is it?

I like those points.

I know she didn't. I'd been playing that type of music for years with her...

It is worth it....just like thousands of other things...:(

I've gotten so much better since I've last played it. It's like I never stopped!!! And I went through the whole thing! I rarely am able to do that without getting too frustrated!!!!!

Ah... Well that's different then. I've had loads of teachers.

True. But then you can get some of those things illegally.

O.o

Now that is awesome.

I can't do that because I forget it. I can get the general gist but I'll have to learn it all over again.

Tell me Wellby, do you have a composer that you throw tantrums over?

I've had two.

*smiles mischeviously* yep.

I might just go play it again now.

Yeah, I can understand that, and I was expecting myself to do that, but I remembered for some reason, or my fingers did.

 Yes! I keep having mood swings over one composer. Mainly because EVERYONE thinks his music and playing skills are some of the best. I tend to think that he's good for what he is, but has no swing to his playing and style. He also tends to do little motion with the left hand. One of the songs I have on here is one of his songs, just with my left hand progression instead of his.

Well I don't believe you can learn music appreciation from just learning theory, but it can help you become a better musician. In the sense that you will, or should, be able to read music better. Well thats just one part of theory I suppose but there are a whole lot of other things you can gain.

Theory isnt suppose to teach you how to put emotions and such into your music. It's just to help you read better among other things like compose and what not. I take theory to improve myself as a musician in the sense of my technique.

Theory and etudes I use to improve my technique, adding emotion to music well..... i think thats something we need to learn on our own. Because I don't believe anyone else can teach you how to put emotion into your playing. Mostly because they may feel differently about the same piece than you.

For example, my Romanza Adaluza (Pablo de Sarasate) sounds very passionate and moving, while my teacher makes it almost tragic and destructive. The whole piece is supposed to be a dance but we both make it sound different. The same piece tells us both a different story as it were.

Who's this composer you're talking about Wellby? Well there are specific styles and stuff when it comes to composers etc.

I guess...

Although if you have Sibelius and you have a keyboard connecting to it, all you have to do is play on the keyboard and Sibelius or any other good notation program will record it.

Techniques can be learnt through several methods.

I don't think you can get emotion anyway unless you understand the piece. =/

Different interpretations :P

This composer is...*holds back some breath* Jon Schmidt.

I think you'd like him...most people do anyway, if not everybody.

Always different. Like how I'd interpret some songs as powerful and awesome as my old teacher would interpret more of a sweet light song...

Ah... I'll go and check him out. Have you got any other composers you wish to recommend?

Tis what's so good about music :D

Does anyone purposefully search for new music or do they just chance upon it?

Yeah, check him out...he's got some free Mp3's so you can hear what I'm talking about...

Music is good...period...unless it's rap. I hate rap. But it's not really music anyway!!!

I search with vigor!

Hmm...

I don't know if it's just still me but I prefer Ludovico Einaudi over him. Maybe because the way his mp3's are, it's like they're... really new, which in my opinion, makes it raw.

Meh, I just like Einaudi's style. Schmidt is good... but Einaudi's more ambient, meditative and it's more of a minimalist style of which is my favourite.

Schmidt doesn't have the atmosphere that Einaudi creates, possibly because it's only one person playing, but even then, Einaudi does it great in Le Onde. =/

I don't know... >.<

I only like rap if it's mixed in with music like Linkin Park or something along those lines. Just not rap all the way.

It depends what your views are on defining music. I listened to a guy screaming and blowing a whistle and that was deemed as "music". There were people's comments and they liked it :S

And your results?
