What is God-Moding/Power-Playing?
There are lots of examples about god-moding. Therefore I will explain each one as best as I can.

God-Moding #1
God-Moding #1 is when you control another person's character without their permission. By controlling their character, most people go for damaging them.

Ex: 2 people are having a fight. Both are civilians. One of them posts a reply that says:

Humbug punched the guy in the face, knocked him off his feet and into the wall behind him, making him slump onto the ground with a groan.

This is really wrong. You are only allowed to control your own character. Controlling someone else's is god-moding. Each to its own man. The opponent’s character isn't yours to control. It's not yours, therefore you shouldn't take possession over it and do whatever you like to it. A role-play game isn’t like that. The other person should decide if you have injured their character or not. However, you can change some words so the other person will have a choice on what to do. It’s very simple. A few different, well chosen words will make a difference.

Ex. Humbug punched the guy in the face, hoping to knock him off his feet and into the wall behind him. Humbug hoped that he would make the guy slump to the ground with a groan.

This leaves the other person a choice on what to do. The guy can either be knocked off his feet or protect himself and do a rebound. Either way, you are not controlling the character, therefore you are not god-moding. Just keep in mind to control your own character and nobody else’s. Have some patience when you have written a post. Let other people control their own character to your actions. You have to let them decide what happens otherwise you will get nowhere but a couple of sanctions.

God-Moding #2
Your character must act realistically.

Ex. Humbug was not a skilled fighter but he punched everyone to the floor in a matter of seconds.

You must never do that example. Number 1. You are not a skilled fighter, so how can you punch everyone in a matter of seconds? Number 2. It’s not even believable. You must make it sound convincing and believable.

Ex. Humbug was not a skilled fighter but he tried to punch everyone to the floor, with no success.

This sounds realistic and it is realistic. It is better than the example above that. You need to think about not walking away from a fight unharmed every time you are fighting. As this is impossible, because you have to get a little bit injured in a fight. You can’t be invincible so blows just reflect from you. That is impossible therefore not realistic. Nobody is immortal and everyone can be defeated. You are hardly going to run anywhere if a bullet hits you on your leg are you?

God-Moding #3
Your character is invincible
This means, your character is virtually invincible and impossible to be defeated. Your character never misses, never gets wounded, never dies, never gets things wrong, is exceedingly powerful, beautiful, smart, talented ect. They just don’t have any weaknesses. In other words, they are perfect in every single way you can imagine. Nothing can defeat them and nothing can beat them. This character can have unlimited skills, items, and are unrealistic in everything they do. Like magically blowing up every single person in a 1 mile radius with a snap of its fingers. You can call them a Mary-Sue. We don’t really like Mary-Sue characters because they tend to think themselves are all it. They never get hit by spells because some way or another they will find a way out of it. Normally a Mary-Sue has extremely bad grammar - chat speaking, and they normally put stars all over the place. Let things hit you, let your character end up in hospital, make them weak! Make them end up within an inch of death, nothing can happen to them without your say so. It just makes it more fun for everyone.

God-Moding #4
This one is just like #3 but it has been concealed better so less people suspect they are god-moders. They are a little bit realistic but on the whole, they are just like above. The character in #4 let themselves be hit a couple of times but that’s it. They are like #3 so they just come out of every fight grinning and winning. Even if the actions have been a little concealed, you can immediately see they are god-moders because they still do better than the standard role-player. A character with nothing wrong with them tends to lead to bad role-playing. Everyone has weaknesses. Whether it is spiders or even sweets, no one can be absolutely perfect in every way.

God-Moding #5
Another type of god-moding is reading lips or using something like telepathy. Remember that what you know as the player doesn’t necessarily mean your character knows it as well. If you happen to receive information from a source, you can’t just make any excuses like you have super-sonic hearing or something like that. Worming your way out of it is another type of god-mode. You might know it but your character doesn’t, so have caution. Of course, if you have the ability to, this does not apply to you.

Thanks for reading!
