"Live life," Fwrthyrn said, smiling to himself. "You don't need to go back to your old ways. Just enjoy life before you're totally blinked out of existence," he explained.

"Your sword?" he raised a quizzical eyebrow, clearly emphasising that he didn't know Lilith had a sword in the first place.

"Uh-huh," Fwrthyrn agreed seriously. "A weapon is very powerful in the wrong hands."

Upon seeing Lilith's reaction, the demon grimaced and went about patching it up again.

The corners of Lilith's mouth lifted slightly into a small smile.

"Good advice," she muttered, more or less to herself than Thyrn.

You should probably take that advice, her inner conscious added. She made a small sound of agreement. Her smile broadened when she saw the obvious look of surprise on Thyrn's face.

"Is it really that surprising?" she asked in return. She bit her lip when she saw Thyrn grimace. She turned away.

"Sorry," she mumbled.

"Well..." Fwrthyrn swallowed, taking his time to answer Lilith's question. He tried to picture Lilith with a sword and failed miserably. "You just didn't strike me as a sword wielder," the demon finished lamely, knowing it was a stupid excuse.

Having finished piecing the odd parts together, Fwrthyrn asked, "How long have you been working with a sword?"

He didn't have any weapons of his own, unless you counted his abilities...but he almost always escaped anyway.

Lilith raised her eyebrows.

"Hmmm..."

She stood up, her eyes searching for something. She found a branch which was a similiar size to her sword and held it the way you would a sword.

"How about now?" she asked and stood holding the brannch for a few more seconds before shrugging and casting it aside. She 'hmm'-ed whilst she added up how long approximately she hd been using a sword.

"Quite a few years. It was with my sword that I made a living at one point," she said.

Fwrthyrn looked at Lilith's action inquisitively. His face contorted into a grimace of sorts, as he tried to slot the images together into one whole piece. "I guess..." he said hesitantly, "Whatever works best for you."

"Made a living?" Fwrthyrn asked, his face betraying a sense of surprise and intrigue.

An owl hooted from a branch nearby. The demon looked around to pinpoint it and realised it had gotten dark. They had been talking so long, it seemed as if time flew by...

He was sure that Lilith had to go home, wherever that was, and so did he. "It's about time," Fwrthyrn muttered. "You can tell me what happened as we're walking." With that, Fwrthyrn indicated the path trailing away towards ground level. "Unless you don't want to, which I fully understand," the demon said hastily, in case Lilith got the wrong impression.

Lilith waved a hand, telling Thyrn to disregard her failed attempt at better visualising her with a sword. She looked at the path Thryn had indicated. She realised she had better get back before anyone realised she was missing.

I doubt anyone would notice though, she thought.

Lilith shrugged, "I don't mind. Yes, I made a living by my sword. I was...what do people call it nowadays...an assassin? A contract killer. That's how I made a living at the time."

"Ah..." Fwrthyrn said. It felt as if everything was slotted into place. "I can see you as an assassin though," he grinned crookedly.

They carried on walking for a few comfortable seconds. "And now? What do you do now?" he asked curiously, glancing sideways at her.

"I mean, if you stopped, why did you?"

Lilith returned Thryn's grin, feeling a small sense of accomplishment now that Thryn could see and understand what she used to be.

"Well, up until now I did nothing. I just...existed. It wasn't very exciting, but it was better than death," she said with a shrug.

Lilith opened and closed her mouth a few times, "I stopped because...because...that's it. I just don't know how to finish that sentence. I guess something else must have peaked my interest."

Yes, she thought, find something to explain it. It's better than leaving it unexplained.

He nodded, "Yeah, I get you."

"What is exciting in your book? After all, death is but the next great adventure and all. It was certainly fun for me," Fwrthyrn said dryly, remembering his plight into Hell. "Hopefully you only need to go through it once."

The demon grunted. "Whatever floats your boat."

They were nearing the base of the mountain now. The silence was warm in the dark. There was just that something there…
